Overview

Jensen Hughes is searching for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with Forensic Fire Origin & Cause experience for our Portland, Oregon office.  The position will focus on Forensic investigations, while joining a group of regional, multidiscipline engineers providing a range of professional life safety consulting services.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills with experience producing written technical reports pertaining to electrical failures, fires and accidents. Past litigation support, expert witness testimony and product safety engineering experience are desirable attributes. The primary focus of this position will be to forensically analyze and determine the root cause of electrical power systems and electronic device failures; electrical fires; electrocution and electric shock injuries; machinery and equipment failures; and the evaluation of equipment/system damage due to catastrophic events. Secondary responsibilities may include electrical system consulting and design related to commercial, industrial, and high-rise buildings. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can establish and maintain client contacts, with a drive for building a business.

Qualifications

License and Certification Requirements

  • Current professional (PE) Engineering license desirable
  • Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) or Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (NAFI-CFEI) are a plus.

Work Experience and Additional Requirements

  • Fire (5) + years’ of practical experience in the electrical engineering field
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the forensic/failure analysis arena
  • Experience with electrical power system design in residential, commercial and/or industrial settings is a plus.
  • Must be willing to transfer for long term commitment to the Portland, OR, or surrounding area, if not already located in designated area. Relocation assistance is available.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% (+/-) throughout the United States or Canada, often at a moment’s notice.
  • Ideal candidate possesses experience with the operation of various types of machinery, equipment and appliances, building electrical systems; automobiles and heavy equipment components and operation; as well as a wide array of other engineering experiences (e.g. failure analysis, building code familiarity, and systems testing).
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with excellent customer service, communication and project management skills. Responsibilities include field investigations, lab examinations, equipment and component testing, evidence preservation, collaboration, project coordination, preparation of reports and provide expert testimony.
