Jensen Hughes has a job opportunity for a Sr. Materials Engineer and Project Manager in our Mountlake Terrace, WA office.

 

Responsibilities

Forensic engineering is a fast-paced, dynamic and fascinating industry. The Jensen Hughes Forensics Division is a forensics engineering/consulting industry leader in fire and explosion investigations, construction defect lawsuits, piping failures, industrial failures, plumbing and HVAC failures, equipment failures, and large losses in general. Jensen Hughes has a state-of-the-art Materials Forensics laboratory in Mountlake Terrace.   The ideal candidate has more than 10 years of work experience and at least 5 years of experience working within forensics engineering consulting. The candidate should have experience testifying in depositions and trials. Ideally, the candidate has led Forensic Investigations of large losses, where the total loss value was more than $5M. The successful candidate is comfortable in a laboratory, in a courtroom, and on a failure scene. This individual will work within, and often lead, multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and architects consulting on a wide variety of materials science issues mostly focused on failure analysis. Proficiency in materials failure modes, fractography, and fracture mechanics is a must. 

This is a highly collaborative position that interacts with engineers, technicians, managers, clients and administrative staff. From a technical perspective the position is involved with conducting hands-on failure analysis, planning and executing laboratory tests, composing written test plans, and field investigations. We are looking for an articulate, confident and professional individual who has excellent writing and verbal communication skills and experience leading and performing mechanical and materials failure analysis investigations. The individual in this position will also participate in business development and marketing activities to build the business. For the right candidate, this is a green-field opportunity to build a materials engineering forensic consulting practice with built-in access to an excellent laboratory and the support of a nationally recognized materials engineering team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy or equivalent degree with focused thesis/coursework/project experience in engineering mechanics or machine design issues is required 
  • Doctorate or Masters of Science is desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute and a positive attitude
  • Project management and Ability to lead small teams and collaborate across multiple offices and disciplines 
  • At least 10 years of total work experience in materials engineering post degrees, with at least 5 years of forensic engineering consulting experience
