JENSEN HUGHES has a new job opportunity for a Process Safety Engineer in our Texas region.  The candidate will work in our Houston, TX office or, potentially, work remotely from anywhere in the Southcentral region (AR, LA, MS, OK, TX).


We are looking for highly motivated, experienced individuals to work in all aspects of fire protection and process safety, including building code consulting, fire protection systems, facility siting studies, process hazard analysis, fire hazard analysis, and dust hazard analysis.  We offer excellent compensation and benefits including a comprehensive health plan, matching 401k plan, and encourage education and growth opportunities.


The successful applicant will have a well-rounded background in either fire protection engineering or process safety engineering and possess strong analytical and creative thinking skills.  The role will involve many aspects of fire protection and process safety engineering, with a focus on providing analysis on high hazard occupancies, chemical plants, and unique design projects.  The position will coordinate and conduct building plan reviews, interpret the applicable building and fire codes, develop alternative solutions, prepare design reports and coordinate with design teams. The candidate will be responsible for the review and implementation of fire protection strategies and will coordinate with design teams and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. 


  • Management and implementation of a wide variety of engineering design and consulting projects.
  • Satisfy client needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate and conduct reviews for high hazard occupancies, including fire protection design review and conducting process safety analyses.
  • Prepare and/or peer review project-related technical reports.
  • Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design approaches, and alternative solutions to resolve client design issues.
  • Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others.
  • Assist with business development activities.


  • 5+ years of experience in process safety engineering (compensation and title commensurate with experience and/or potential client base).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical, Fire Protection, or Industrial), or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or other professional designation preferred. We will also consider candidates that have significant industry experience in process safety engineering but are not on the engineering track.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Ability to present clear and technically sound process safety strategies.
  • Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades, and jurisdictional authorities.
  • Fire alarm & fire sprinkler design knowledge/experience is a plus.
    Dust hazard analysis (DHA), process safety management (PSM), fire hazard analysis (FHA) and hazardous materials is HIGHLY preferred.
  • Interest in business development.
