Overview

JENSEN HUGHES has a job opportunity for a Process Safety Consultant or Chemical/Mechanical Engineer to be based in any or our Maryland or Virginia office locations, or work within a remote office location anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic area.  This person will perform, direct and grow engineering service offerings in various industries, which include chemical manufacturing, power generation and energy storage.  Activities may include supporting standardized activities as well as general engineering analysis and testing. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analyses on plant systems
  • Support laboratory scale testing activities (including test design)
  • Business development with both existing and new clients
  • Support process hazard analysis (PHA), process safety management (PSM), and dust hazard analysis (DHA) activities
  • May serve as expert, guest speaker or contributing author to publications in niche area
  • Leverage existing tools and develop new engineering tools for analysis

Qualifications

  • High-level written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations, etc., and to respond to questions from clients, prospective clients, management and internal staff.

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited or no standardization exists

  • Knowledge/experience in one or more of the following specialized areas is desirable but not critical: ​

    • Industrial safety and hygiene

    • Electrical safety

    • Instrumentation & controls (safety instrumented systems)

    • Ventilation analysis and design

    • Consequence modeling

    • Dispersion analysis

    • Emergency planning

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Nuclear, Chemical, or equivalent), and 5 or more years of related experience and/or training; OR

    • Equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Up to 25% travel time

Preferred Requimrents: 

  • Laboratory experience, including designing, building, and testing of custom experimental setups in the area of adiabatic reaction calorimetry (e.g. VSP, APTAC, PHI-TEC) and other thermohydraulic sciences.
